Lead Story

On 1 October, Cybin Inc. became Helus Pharma Inc. The release says the new name "reflects the Company's anticipated transformation from a clinical stage discovery and development company to a commercial-ready pharmaceutical company". Anticipated: the company still calls itself clinical stage.

We read the articles of amendment, the document that changes a company's legal set-up, filed with the SEC on 5 October. One line changed: the name, from Cybin Inc. to Helus Pharma Inc. The number of directors, business restrictions, share classes, share rights, transfer restrictions, other provisions: each reads "Not amended". The business name had been in use since 5 January. The ticker, HELP, stays.

A rename reads as branding. We read the three weeks of filings around it instead, because that is where a company tells you what it is about to do.

Two of those filings are incorporated into Helus's F-10 shelf registration with the SEC, the filing that lets a company sell securities when it chooses. The second, on 15 October, is a board appointment labelled a "designated news release" under the company's shelf prospectus. The appointee is Suresh Durgam, most recently chief medical officer of Intra-Cellular Therapies, who per the release "played a pivotalA pivotal trial, sometimes called a pivotal study, is industry shorthand rather than a regulatory term: it means a trial a company intends to serve as one of the adequate and well-controlled investigations that support an approval decision. role in securing FDA approvals for CAPLYTA". The appointment is subject to Cboe Canada approval. The chief executive's quote in it names "clinical, regulatory and commercial milestones".

The 1 October release lists where Helus operates: Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland. HLP003, the drug the trial records still call CYB003, holds a Breakthrough Therapy Designation from the FDA. Helus holds it from one regulator, the FDA.

Here is Europe in the public record. EMBRACE, one of three HLP003 Phase 3 trials in depression (MDDMajor depressive disorder, or MDD, is the clinical diagnosis of depression itself, the broad population from which treatment-resistant depression is drawn once two adequate courses of antidepressants have failed.) on ClinicalTrials.gov, lists 79 locations. Fifty are recruiting: 28 in the US, 9 in the UK, 5 in Australia, 3 in Greece, 3 in Poland, 2 in Ireland. Germany's four sites and Czechia's three are listed as not yet recruiting. The sponsor of record is still Cybin IRL Limited. The record was updated on 16 October; against our 14 October snapshot, no field we track moved.

EMBRACE sites by country and status, ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06793397 read 19 October

Our view: the commercial preparation on the record is US first. The shelf is financing, and says nothing about where a medicine sells. The clearest signal with a geography is the breakthrough designation, which Helus holds from the FDA. The board hire is preparation: the release credits Durgam with FDA approvals and with global clinical development. Europe in the same record is 17 recruiting sites, nine of them in the UK, and no marketing application to any European regulator in anything we read: EDGAR, the agenda of the EU medicines agency's expert committee (the EMAThe European Medicines Agency, or EMA, is the European Union's central medicines regulator: through the centralised procedure it evaluates whether a medicine may be sold across the EU and EEA, and it has no say in what any country then pays for it.'s CHMPThe Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, or CHMP, is the European Medicines Agency committee that assesses a marketing application and issues the scientific opinion the European Commission then turns into an EU-wide authorisation.), the EMA list of medicines under evaluation, the MHRA's pages.

We read those sites this way: patients in Greece, Poland, Ireland and the UK are producing evidence for an American approval. Lilly's contingent value rightA contingent value right, or CVR, is a promise by a buyer to pay the sellers a further sum only if a named event happens by a named date, so the headline price of a deal that carries one is a ceiling and not a payment. (CVR), the extra payment former AtaiBeckley shareholders receive only if named milestones are met, works the same way: in the CVR form filed as Annex III (the executed agreement is not on EDGAR), the two approval milestones each need a US approval and a DEA rescheduling, and none needs a European approval. Helus is the smaller version of the same bet. US first is not Europe never, and nothing in the filings rules Europe out. Nothing in them dates it either.

The concession: for a company whose named designation is the FDA's, that order is rational.

So we watch Wednesday. Helus presents HLP003 and HLP004, its anxiety (GADGeneralised anxiety disorder, or GAD, is persistent and excessive worry that the person cannot control, and it is the indication in which Definium ran its two Phase 3 trials and one of the three Qualifying Indications in the AtaiBeckley CVR agreement.) programme, on 21 October at 9:00 Eastern, 15:00 Berlin. The test is one sentence: a date for Europe. That is this week's call.

Signal

Ensysce's UK psilocybin trial. Ensysce Biosciences bought Cy Biopharma on 5 August and announced on 24 September that it had submitted a Phase 2 protocol for CY200, a psilocybin-predominant botanical extract, to the UK's MHRA. The business overview it filed with the SEC on 16 October adds what the release did not: the application went to the MHRA and a research ethics committee on 11 September 2026; as of the filing, no decision had been received, no participant enrolled, and a decision was expected in early December. The indication, complex regional pain syndrome type 1, was in the September release.

The plan: about 130 people randomised in the UK, four arms, two dosing sessions three weeks apart. Because CY200 contains a controlled drug, the trial also sits under the UK Home Office; the filing says its contract packager and each trial site hold the licences. The same filing carries an auditor's going-concern paragraph on Cy Biopharma's historical accounts, the ones from before the acquisition. We found no record for this trial on ClinicalTrials.gov under CY200, Cy Biopharma, Ensysce, or psilocybin with CRPS; the UK is outside CTISThe Clinical Trials Information System, or CTIS, is the European Union's single portal for applying to run a clinical trial and for publishing it, and each record lists the member states whose regulator has taken a decision on the trial and the sites in each., the EU trial register, and we did not check ISRCTN. We will follow it through the company's own filings.

Data point

Eighty. Days, as of today, past the estimated primary completion date the VLS-01 Phase 2 record still shows. NCT06524830 gives 1 August 2026, is still marked RECRUITING with an estimated enrolment of 142 at 48 locations, and was last updated on 11 May. VLS-01 carries $2.00 of the $2.50 CVR. The record may be stale, or the timetable may have slipped, or both. The registry does not say which, and neither can we. Call 15, no Lilly-sponsored VLS-01 Phase 3 in depression (MDD) registered on ClinicalTrials.gov or CTIS by 30 June 2027, holds.

Regulator watch

CHMP, the EMA's medicines committee, met 12 to 15 October and recommended six new medicines, Lilly's obesity pill orforglipron among them. Nothing psychedelic and nothing psychiatric on the agenda or in the highlights. The compassionate-use item on the agenda reads "No items".

The compassionate-use register at BfArMThe BfArM, in full the Bundesinstitut fur Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte or Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, is Germany's national medicines regulator, and it also runs the country's narcotics oversight and its public compassionate use register., Germany's medicines regulator, which decides our call 10, still names one psilocybin programme, running to 17 June 2027, and no MDMA programme. The responsible-party field on the psilocybin entry names ZI Mannheim and Prof. Gerhard Gründer, an academic institute, not a company.

Lilly's brenipatide depression Phase 3, GZMI on CTIS, started in Spain on 14 October. CTIS records recruitment as started in Germany and Poland only, among the trial's four member states; Spain shows a trial start and no recruitment start, and Greece no start of any kind.

Region Skåne's psilocybin trial in anorexia nervosa, covered in Issue 11, now shows a trial start of 16 December 2025 and recruitment from 27 January 2026 on CTIS. Those dates were not on the record when we read it on 14 October; the version published on 17 October carries them.

Failed checks, not zeros

Three of Lilly's brenipatide trial records on CTIS open empty, as they have on every collector run since 11 October: the twin of NCT07412756 and the two IBS trials. Call 12 covers five records, GZMI, GZMP, GZME and the two IBS trials; we could read three. ClinicalTrials.gov would not show us what changed on EMBRACE on 16 October: the history endpoint returned 403, so "no field we track moved" rests on our own 14 October snapshot alone. Lilly's investor site refuses our scripts; the 29 October date is read from the page in a browser and from the PR Newswire copy. Endpoints reported that Lilly's neuroscience president said on 15 October that Lilly is interested in work to "improve the profile of ibogaine"; the article is paywalled, we read the first paragraph, and whether she named BPL-003, VLS-01 or mebufotenin is unknown. It is not one of call 14's four documents either way. ZIN's search returned an empty page. BfArM's register lists 26 programmes, two fewer than our August count; we did not check which left. Compass's and AtaiBeckley's investor feeds have failed our collector every night this week; the EDGAR submissions feeds for Compass and both AtaiBeckley registrants show no filing dated after 28 September.

Ledger

No call scores this week. Call 14 resolves on 29 October: Lilly does not name BPL-003, VLS-01 or mebufotenin in its Q3 2026 earnings press release, earnings deck, prepared remarks or Q&A, as published on the day of the release. Lilly's release of 15 October, carried on PR Newswire, set the date; the call is at 10:00 Eastern, 15:00 Berlin. We score it in Issue 21.

Call 12 was checked on three of its five records; two open empty on CTIS. GZMR and GZMV, Lilly brenipatide trials outside the five, do not count whatever member states they list. The call stands as written.

Call 16: STAT, reporting from its summit where Compass's chief executive spoke, wrote that the company is "preparing to complete" its rolling FDA submission this quarter. That is a report, not a company statement. The call scores on a Compass press release or SEC filing.

The board: two hits, one miss, one void, fourteen open.

Fourteen carried in; this issue makes the fifteenth.

The call

By 17:00 Berlin on 23 October, Helus's published materials for its 21 October investor presentation contain no dated plan to submit a European marketing authorisation application for HLP003.

A breakthrough designation in one country, a board appointee credited with FDA approvals, and no European marketing application in anything we read. We think Wednesday's materials put a date on the US and none on Europe.

Falsifier: a date, month, quarter, half-year or year named for a marketing authorisation application for HLP003, also called CYB003, to the EMA, the MHRA or any EU member-state agency, in the press release, the slide deck, prepared remarks or the webcast replay, as published by Helus by the deadline. "Ex-US partnering", "global" or Europe as a "future market" without a date does not count. A date for a European trial does not count; the call is about an application to market. A document that is published but that we cannot open is reported as such and the call scores on the others. If none of the four is public by the deadline, the call is void.

Resolves 2026-10-23, 17:00 Berlin. Scores in Issue 20 on 27 October. Logged as call 19 on the ledger (https://psychedelicbrief.com/ledger/).
